Slaves in White Collars

Imprisoned by our own Creation

Hello World.

A friend of mine encouraged me to write a post on "Freedom" and because it is such a huge topic i simply couldn't resist... after a weeks worth of contemplation I'm finally ready to put my thoughts to paper...well, screen.

This post on freedom will be a generalized idea on a global scale, rather than a detailed fact/conspiracy rant at one country.
Some of it might be offensive to some people, and it might not be what you want to hear, but it has to be said.

Enjoy!

Advertisement has us chasing cars and clothes... working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
We're the middle children of history man... no purpose or place, we got no great war, no great depression, our great war is a spiritual war, our great depression is our lives...
Couldn't think of any better way to say this myself... It's true, we have no war... we have no major crisis...
As i mentioned before in the two part post The Ascension and the Fall of Music our generation has nothing to fight for, don't get me wrong, it's a great thing that such horrors aren't around anymore...

But now all we do is simply live. We drive to work trying to make money in our simple day to day jobs... come home, sit down watch TV, play some video games, go out at night get wasted, party, go home and repeat... everything has become a mindless routine...

So how did we come to terms with this awful condition?

We have become consumers.

Surrounded in a world stained by advertisement, and it's constantly evolving merchandise such as vehicles, fashion, and technology.
Humanity couldn't help but tumble right into its cold, material clasp, and to never bother finding its way back.

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to accept what is true.
- Soren Kierkegaard

Prolonged exposure to this careless living has bred a generation of extremely ignorant individuals...

By careless living I don't mean that we just sit at home and do absolutely nothing while letting our time go to waste...
I mean that we are so consumed in our own little image of reality that we simply don't see the big picture... we don't see that everything we say, everything we eat, drink, wear, buy, and so forth... perpetuates the undesirable way of life we are now living.

We blindly follow the media, we throw money away for the "hottest" trends, we imitate our celebrities...

We became slaves of the system. Instead of working towards making a change in this world, we now live to feed our innermost "wants". We work jobs we hate, to buy shit we don't need, with the illusion of freedom in mind we think that this duvet of "stuff" will complete us as a person, and will create a more sensual existence.

We are nothing but angry dogs that get a steak thrown to them as a distraction for what the people in power are truly intending to do.

The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre.
