The Grand Illusion: World Peace

The Truly Inconvenient Truth

To have world peace we must change who we are... Human.

Hello world.

First I'd like to say that I find this topic very hard to discuss... and to me it seems as a very touchy subject because, don't we all hope for world peace?

Now I'd like to make sure that you and I are on the same page, and that you can understand my perception of what us humans imagine world peace to be. If you type into your Google search engine:
"Define World Peace"

something along these lines will show up:
World peace is an ideal of freedom, peace, and happiness among and within all nations and/or peoples.
...An ideal of freedom, peace, and happiness... within all nations & people. Wouldn't that be the perfect life to live? The perfect world to live in? Freedom, peace, and happiness to anyone and everyone? I'd say so.

In my understanding, to build a truly perfect world, it requires perfect builders... but haven't we learnt over these hundreds of thousands of years living on this planet that we people.. are not perfect? we all make mistakes, we all have our faults, after all we're only human right? so how can we, such flawed creatures, build this perfect world which we so hopefully long for?

Since our basic human traits prevent us from achieving this perfect world naturally could there be another way? It seems like not too long ago, we have figured out the answer... or have we?

Arthur Henderson, the President of the Disarmament Conference of 1932 once said:
"To solve the problem of organizing world peace we must establish world law and order."
- Arthur Henderson
I have chosen this quote because it seems to be the best suiting quote to explain how we people are currently trying to achieve this "World Peace", through law and order.
A controlled nation, by one or many governments with specific laws and regulations intact to prevent any actions which may ruin this "world peace".
Not a bad plan right?
Could this bring us peace? Yeh most likely...
Could this bring us happiness? sure why not...
But will this bring us freedom? ... I'll leave this question for you to answer :)

Right now I'd like to refer to a episode of Star Trek... yes star trek, the very first original episode "The Cage" where the former captain of the legendary U.S.S Enterprise, Captain Christopher Pike had been captured by the Talosians which were highly evolved humanoids ... well simply people with big heads emphasizing their enormous and all-powerful brain.

The episode continues by Captain Pike attempting to break out of their prison while the aliens make him undergo scenarios by creating powerful illusions.

Now that's not the point, the reason i mention this episode is because no matter how wonderful they had created the surroundings for Captain Pike to live in, no matter that they had provided him with a very beautiful woman to be his, and his only, he still made his one and only priority to break free even when it meant putting his and two of his fellow comrades lives at risk to pull off a very dangerous bluff of self destruction.

At the end of the episode before letting Captain Pike return to his Star Ship one of the three aliens said:

We had not believed this possible, the customs and history of your race show a unique hatred of captivity... even when it's pleasant and benevolent, you prefer death.

My point is that no matter how wonderful a life under a strictly government controlled environment that ensures peace and happiness may be, the exact same human traits which prevent us from creating the perfect world for us to live in, also prevent us from being captives even in the most wonderful of environments. People always have and always will strive for freedom, peace, and happiness, but as long as we are humans.. (meant in a deeper way rather than just appearance) there will be no "World Peace".

I'd like to extend to you folks a little and yet meaningful silver lining to this sorrowfully concluded post:

It is a little piece of wisdom from another Star Trek episode (yes i know i know...) This little clip is from the episode "A Taste of Armageddon", upon destroying the machines which kept the nations of Eminiar VII destruction free by simulating a computerized calculated war and sending the calculated casualties to the "Disintegration Chambers" where they will be killed as a result of the war. Captain Kirk offers an alternative and more peaceful solution. (the whole point was so that instead of destroying real houses and cities, the computer can simply calculate who dies and then the government would execute those people ensuring a flourishing society)

"Don't you see? we've admitted it to ourselves! we're a killer species... it's instinct - Councilman"

The instinct can be fought, we're human beings, with the blood of million savage years on our hands, but we can stop it. We can admit that we're killers, but we are not going to kill today, that's all it takes, knowing that we're not going to kill today. - Captain James T. Kirk

Thank you for reading this.

Live long and prosper ;)
